Alternative, Pop Rock | Stevensville, Michigan
Together since 2004 (starting under the band name The Useful Sound), Carawae is an alternative pop-rock group born in Stevensville, Michigan. Blending breath taking guitar harmonies with heart stopping vocal melodies, Carawae has become one of the Midwest's top unsigned acts. With performances for sold-out crowds at venues such as The Beat Kitchen in Chicago, The MySpace Café in Detroit, Mac's Bar in Lansing and The Intersection in Grand Rapids.
The band has had opportunities of sharing the stage with bands such as Augustana, All Time Low, Hawthorne Heights, Mayday Parade and many more. With over 400 shows under their belts ranging as far north as Vermont and as far south as Texas they have completed 9 tours across the country with bands such as Making April (Universal Records) Asteria (Warner Records) Rookie of the Year (One Eleven Records) and A Rocket to the Moon with another lined up from January 31st to march 22nd.
Carawae has received airplay on; 94.9 the coast, 107.1 WIRX, 103.5 The Bear, 101.1 Chicago’s Alternative, Central Michigan University’s 91.5, Michigan State University’s 88.9 and many more. The band was also sponsored by Taco Bell on their November tour, with A Rocket To The Moon. The Daily Chorus recently rated Carawae the number 37 unsigned band. “This band is lining up a busy 2008. They already have shows booked with All Time Low, Mayday Parade and Powerspace. They have tours booked till mid-March. This band has many contacts, which is a huge plus as an unsigned band. Musically, they bring some power rock to the pop-punk style. The melodies and harmonies have me wanting more. Let's see how this band develops. They are definitely on the right track.” Says Tim Towner of The Daily Chorus. “Just call Carawae alternative pop-rock's next great hope.” Says Anne Erickson of the Lansing State Journal.
Their song "Stay With Me" was later repurposed into "Letters and Love Notes" by Go Radio
Carawae was: Alex Reed (Vocals/Guitar), Kyle Sipress (Guitar/Vocals), Mike Schiman (Bass), and Zane Spiegel (Drums). Sometime around early 2008 their bassist, Mike Schiman, moved to Colorado and was replaced by Eli Clark. Dylan Stevens also joined the band on guitar for their final six months together.
After
Carawae disbanded Alex Reed joined
Go Radio and later formed
Be Nice to People in 2023. Kyle Sipress started the band
Colour Color with former
Fiction City drummer Johnny Simmen before becoming the lead guitarist for
The Devil Wears Prada in 2015. Zane Spiegel went on to drum for
Goodbye Coastline,
The Fastest Kid Alive, and then
Zombie Schoolboy. Eli Clark went on to play bass for
Fit For Rivals and later
I Prevail in 2016.
They also had several releases under their previous name, The Useful Sound, but we have yet to find them.
