Take the City

Indie, Alternative, Pop Rock | Bay City, Michigan
Band Photo by Joe Matteson Photography

Formed in June 2005, Take The City was the result of an acoustic band comprised of Matt Ferranti and Ken Lange turning into a full band. Matt and Ken have been in bands since eighth grade and ultimately brought Take The City and the band's mission into conception. The band's members lived in Bay City, and though drummers and bassists were constantly changing, Matt and Ken remained a consistent, fundamental part of the band. Despite countless member changes and other trials and tribulations, Take The City remains and strives to succeed in spreading their music and message of hope and inspiration all over the world.

In August 2006, Matt left for the New Life School of Worship in Colorado Springs, CO and Ken began school at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, MI. Determined to resume the band when Matt returned, the two were in constant contact throughout the year and even played a show over Christmas break when Matt returned home. It was in Colorado Springs that Matt met fellow student Brandon Taets, who eventually moved to Michigan to play drums for Take The City. After graduating from the ten-month internship at New Life, Matt moved back to Michigan and worked out a job for Taets, who moved to Montrose, Michigan at the end of summer 2007.

When Ken, Matt, and Brandon began playing together, it was clear that Brandon was the type of drummer they had been waiting for. Ken and Matt taught the songs to Brandon and wrote a little new material. Brandon was a great fit with the band and offered his own songwriting experience to the writing process. To complete the line-up, Matt and Ken contacted a good friend and former band-mate, Jacob Bunting to play bass guitar. Then, the four guys went to work and began treating the band as a professional entity.

Practicing months before playing their first show, the four guys now play around five to ten shows monthly and have two eighteen day, fourteen show tours to Colorado Springs under their belt. Take The City has recently finished recording a seven-track acoustic EP titled, "The Fortress" set for release this summer, with new merchandise also on the way. Captivating audiences all over with an incredible live show and catchy pop choruses, the band has developed a growing fan base in Michigan and other areas of the Midwest. Equipping their audience with a message of hope and encouragement, Take The City's motives have always been to keep God first in all that they do.

Simple As Surgery

Pop Rock, Powerpop, Alternative | Augusta, Georgia
Band Photo by Shane Lopes, 2012

The hair bands of yesteryear had the right idea about things - "We bring the music; you bring the party!" Simple As Surgery has built on this ideal since it's humble roots, and thus far, we've been met with open doors and success. Bottom line, we love God, and we love people. Our music gives us a chance to express that in ways wouldn't otherwise be possible. Needless to say, the future looks bright. We've had a blast doing this and plan on doing it for years to come!

Daniel McElmurray (Bass), Carter Matthews (Drums/Vocals), Josh Whiting (Guitar/Vocals)

Sailing to Rome

Post-Hardcore, Emo, Punk | Buffalo, New York

Starting at the bottom, scrounging for any show they could get, Sailing to Rome has proved to their home town (Buffalo, NY) they are ready for anything. Suffering through hard times when sound guys could care less, (and quit the day of a show with The Fold- true story) to times when the only crowd was made up of the other bands girlfriends, Sailing to Rome has grown into an in your face genre shaking the foundations of every stage. With Chris Salasny on guitar, Chadd DePasquale on bass, Steven Evans on drums, and both frontmen/lead guitar players Austin Gold and Jamael Hunte, Sailing to Rome keeps their fans guessing what will happen next.

Sailing to Rome incorporates an unusual sense of melody and harmony into their songwriting for a band walking the line between punk/hardcore/metal. The vocals are accessible and understandable, and the dual lead singers are in excellent form here.

Chris Salasny (Guitar), Jamael Hunte (Vocals/Guitar), Chadd DePasquale (Bass), Austin Gold (Vocals/Guitar), Steven Evans (Drums)

Leah Stargazing

Punk, Alternative, Pop Rock | Providence, Rhode Island / Chicago, Illinois
Band Photo by Robert Caldarone

Rhode Island may be the smallest state of the union, but natives Leah Stargazing plan to put it on the musical map by making a big, big noise. What else would you expect from a band that had the release party for their debut CD "Leave It All Behind" in a venue no less august than the Providence Civic Center, headlining an extreme sport skate competition for 600 fans? It took the band two hours to finish signing autographs, staying until everyone was satisfied. “Coming from Rhode Island makes us more determined,” admits the band. “There used to be a great music scene here. Now it’s more difficult to get noticed, but we just work that much harder.” Apparently it’s working because Leah Stargazing has already achieved venerable rumor status in their hometown.

With their energy packed live performances, it’s easy to see that the band is passionate about their music, loving what they do with the intensity of the young. “Everything comes out with incredible energy and people can just get absorbed in the show.” Describing themselves as “melodic pop-punk,” Leah Stargazing play high energy, upbeat songs about girls, disappointment, growing up and everyday life. “All my songs are experience songs – I figure if I’m going through it, someone else must be going through it too,” reveals songwriter/vocalist Jordan Fielding. “Fans have told me they relate to my songs and are relieved that someone else is thinking the same thing as them.”

Drawing comparisons to Green Day, New Found Glory, Saves The Day and Sum 41 (Billboard Magazine, January 18 Edition), Leah Stargazing have learned more than musical chops by watching other groups rise to fame. “The fan relationship is very important,” Kevin insists. The singer himself admits: “I stand up there thinking ‘what would I like to see if I were in the audience?’ Fans fuel the band. After all, it’s really all about the fans, isn’t it?” Whether performing at home in Providence or playing for a packed house at New York’s famous CBGB’s, the result is always the same. Fans crowd up front and sing every word.

Seeking out new venues in which their music could be heard Jordan and Brandon moved the band to Chicago, Illinois sometime during/after 2005.

Members: Jordan Fielding (Vocals/Guitar), Brandon Fielding (Bass/Vocals), Kevin Laroche (Drums), Dennis Subrizi (Guitar/Vocals)

Previous Members: Thomas Keokane (Keys), Tim Aubin (Guitar/Vocals), Jennifer Yakes (Drums), Deyv Dee (Guitar), Ryan Birkett (Drums), Chris Mason (Drums), Josh Cournoyer (Guitar/Vocals)

Carawae

Alternative, Pop Rock | Stevensville, Michigan

Together since 2004 (starting under the band name The Useful Sound), Carawae is an alternative pop-rock group born in Stevensville, Michigan. Blending breath taking guitar harmonies with heart stopping vocal melodies, Carawae has become one of the Midwest's top unsigned acts. With performances for sold-out crowds at venues such as The Beat Kitchen in Chicago, The MySpace Café in Detroit, Mac's Bar in Lansing and The Intersection in Grand Rapids.

The band has had opportunities of sharing the stage with bands such as Augustana, All Time Low, Hawthorne Heights, Mayday Parade and many more. With over 400 shows under their belts ranging as far north as Vermont and as far south as Texas they have completed 9 tours across the country with bands such as Making April (Universal Records) Asteria (Warner Records) Rookie of the Year (One Eleven Records) and A Rocket to the Moon with another lined up from January 31st to march 22nd.

Carawae has received airplay on; 94.9 the coast, 107.1 WIRX, 103.5 The Bear, 101.1 Chicago’s Alternative, Central Michigan University’s 91.5, Michigan State University’s 88.9 and many more. The band was also sponsored by Taco Bell on their November tour, with A Rocket To The Moon. The Daily Chorus recently rated Carawae the number 37 unsigned band. “This band is lining up a busy 2008. They already have shows booked with All Time Low, Mayday Parade and Powerspace. They have tours booked till mid-March. This band has many contacts, which is a huge plus as an unsigned band. Musically, they bring some power rock to the pop-punk style. The melodies and harmonies have me wanting more. Let's see how this band develops. They are definitely on the right track.” Says Tim Towner of The Daily Chorus. “Just call Carawae alternative pop-rock's next great hope.” Says Anne Erickson of the Lansing State Journal.

Their song "Stay With Me" was later repurposed into "Letters and Love Notes" by Go Radio

Band Lineup, 2008 - Alex Reed (Vocals/Guitar), Kyle Sipress (Guitar/Vocals), Eli Clark (Bass/Vocals), Zane Spiegel (Drums)

Carawae was: Alex Reed (Vocals/Guitar), Kyle Sipress (Guitar/Vocals), Mike Schiman (Bass), and Zane Spiegel (Drums). Sometime around early 2008 their bassist, Mike Schiman, moved to Colorado and was replaced by Eli Clark. Dylan Stevens also joined the band on guitar for their final six months together.

Band Photo, 2008

After Carawae disbanded Alex Reed joined Go Radio and later formed Be Nice to People in 2023. Kyle Sipress started the band Colour Color with former Fiction City drummer Johnny Simmen before becoming the lead guitarist for The Devil Wears Prada in 2015. Zane Spiegel went on to drum for Goodbye Coastline, The Fastest Kid Alive, and then Zombie Schoolboy. Eli Clark went on to play bass for Fit For Rivals and later I Prevail in 2016.

They also had several releases under their previous name, The Useful Sound, but we have yet to find them.
