Half the Battle

Emo, Alternative, Pop Punk | Fairfield, Ohio

Half the Battle is a punk and emo influenced band from Fairfield, Ohio.  The foursome formed in the late August of 2001.  The band is actually a merge of two pre-existing bands.  The three original members (Rob, Matt and Brad) were first in a pop punk band called Fallout.  They shared the stage with a local horror punk band named Worse for Wear.  After a few shows, the boys and the lead singer of Worse for Wear (Justin) became friends.  Shortly following but a few shows, each of these bands called it quits.  The "Fallout Boys" started a more emo-influenced band called, Half the Battle.  Justin wrote by himself for several months.  It wasn't until late September of 2001 that Justin filled in as a guest vocalist for two fun shows with Half the Battle.  Well, it turns out, there was such a good response and things worked out so well, that the boys asked Justin to permanently stay with the band.  Justin quickly agreed and they began writing original tunes.  Before long, Half the Battle started playing shows.  It seemed to be going well so they began playing more frequently.  That is pretty much where it is left off.  They are fortunate in the respect that it seems their music is catching on and people are digging it.  So hopefully things will continue in the same light they currently are.

Members were: Justin Sheldon (Vocals/Guitar), Rob Cargioli (Bass/Vocals), Matt White (Guitar), Brad Moore (Drums)

Missiles and Markers

Pop Punk, Emo, Rock | Glen Rock, New Jersey

Missiles and Markers first formed in 2006 after several renditions of solo projects by front man Chris Simons. Lugging around his acoustic guitar from open mic to open mic, he befriended the boys that would later complete the quintet. “Playing just me acoustic was fun, but I always left shows wondering what it would be like if I took it up a few decibels,” said Simons.

Hooking up with seasoned artists drummer Joe Ott, and guitarists Mark Cebula and Jon Blendy, the band quickly took the NJ scene by storm. They relentlessly played shows at small halls and bars, but as time went by the kids started to listen. In 2007, Missiles and Markers opened for The Starting Line and won the Converse battle of the bands at the Journeys Backyard BBQ. With a closet full of new shoes, the guys released their first demo titled “Roses in Ransom.” The album was a collection of songs recorded between PJ Bianco of sphere recording, and Jesse Cannon of Cannon Sound. The demo garnered a ton of local attention. Not only was it featured on numerous college radio stations, but Missiles and Markers' song "Sweet Katie" was also aired on New York’s 923 KRocks JV and Elvis show, as well as the National broadcast Opie and Anthony Program. "Sweet Katie" was featured on both programs with outstanding results. The song became a fan hit, and was soon the featured sing-a-long to close out their shows. “Kids related to it,” says drummer Joe Ott.

Late 2008, Missiles and Markers perked the interest of Water Music and Infidel Records Honcho Rob Grenoble, who signed the band to their first record deal. The new album promises to be a collection of windows into each members personal lives. The lyrics are composed of heartbreak and bitterness, mixed with sprinkles of addiction, revenge, adventure, and fun. Mixing crisp tight guitar tones with poppy sing-along chorus’, the album paints a canvas that crawls out the speakers and gets everyone moving. Even though the songs are not theoretically “released,” demos are getting strong fan response all over the country just from being on the website.

Flight 409

Pop Punk, Rock, Emo | Fresno, California
Band Photo, 2005

Flight 409 formed in 2001 and quickly became a fixture in the Fresno music scene. From rocking out on cardboard guitars to nation-wide tours with bands like Saosin, Poison The Well, and The Used, this group has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with. Eager and ambitious, they waisted no time recording a demo, playing at high schools, and passing out CD's. Almost immediately they were headlining in front crowds of over 300 people. Their drive and dedication landed them several dates on Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos tour.

2004 band line up: Rick Mejia (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Kyle Baker (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Shaffer Young (Bass/Vocals), Tim Kirk (Drums)

In 2008, after spending over a year in the studio, Flight 409 released the full length album, "We Don't Dance" featuring the hit single, "Operator" on the independent label Something In The Water, U.S., and Radtone Records, Japan. The record has received much praise from fans and promoters alike for their catchy crowd-pleasing melodies, hard hitting guitars, unique instrumentation, and solid drumming; coupled with their energetic heart-felt live performances, Flight 409 should not be missed.

Andy Thornton (Vocals), Justin Wiley (Guitar), Brett Johns (Drums), Kyle Baker (Guitar), Shaffer Young (Bass)

Recently settling in to their final member changes, the band now consists of Andy Thornton (vocals), Justin Wiley (guitar), Brett Johns (drums), Kyle Baker (guitar), and Shaffer Young (bass). Flight 409 has been through a lot but continues to move forward. Determined to spend their life on the road, be sure to look out for Flight 409 as they head to your town.

For the Story's Sake

Rock, Emo, Post-Hardcore | Berwick, Maine
Band Photo by Tucker Leary, 2008

For the Story's Sake is a five piece band from the 207. Together, they blend together a mix of hard riffs, harmonies, and melodies. Making music that demands to be heard, and taking listeners by storm, the five pour their hearts into the music. With the release of the five song EP, Between Where We've Lacked, they show their versatile writing style. Wasting no time, they've already begun works on numerous other tracks. For the Story's Sake's effort and drive make their shows more than a showcasing of music, as they show their true passion they have for music as a whole. Guitars, mics, and bodies fly through the air. Breakdowns move the room, solos melt faces, and one liners claw their way into your head and never leave. The energy on the stage makes it impossible to just stand and stare.

Kenmore

Post-Hardcore, Alternative, Emo | Fredericksburg/Fairfax, Virginia
Myspace Header, 2007

With a sound frequently compared to Cartel, Emery, and The Receiving End Of Sirens, Kenmore's upbeat but melodic rock shaped them into one of the top bands to watch out for on the east coast.

Formed out of the ashes of two successful rock bands from Fredericksburg and Fairfax in 2005, Kenmore had been on two successful self-booked tours and played countless numbers of shows with bands such as Copeland, Chiodos, Relient K, etc. With the help of Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Over It, Senses Fail), Kenmore recorded their first EP in August 2006 to be pressed and sold. As a band, Kenmore set themselves apart from the local scene, and had hoped to further their success in the modern regional rock scene.

Mark Wood (Drums), Kevin Famoso (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Sean Freeman (Guitar/Vocals), Shane Dickerson (Bass)

At the end of 2007, the band announced their breakup, with their last show to be scheduled on the 19th of January, 2008. They were well known for their amiable personalities and killer live shows. After disbanding Mark Wood went on to join Boys Will Be Boys.
