In Safe Hands

Pop, Pop Punk, Powerpop | Quyon, Quebec, Canada

Greetings to all who have found yourselves at this secret online fortress. We have been sent from an alternate universe through the power of video entertainment systems. We are under the order of the great King Koopa and have strict instructions to infect the brains of earth's children. We will do this by means of subliminal audio throughout the games played on these entertainment systems. Do not worry mother and father... the fruits of your wombs are In Safe Hands. This website hosted by your planet's MySpace enterprise holds the first ever revealed audio files that are embedded subliminally into the video games. Brace your selves for the ultimate exposure to true awesomeness... In Safe Hands

In Safe Hands likes to blend elements of late 90s pop punk with new age pop punk, drawing influences from bands like Four Year Strong, Hit The Lights, Blink 182, New Found Glory, Cowabunga, Mathletes, Forever The Sickest Kids, and Anberlin. The band was founded by Randy Frobel and has seen member changes up until the current line-up, consisting of ex-Down on Bedford bassist Rory Mayhew, and ex-Harmonic Distortion bandmates Cameron Morrison and Mitchell Chevrier, as well as a guitarist from The Courtship, Terrence McAuley.

Thoroughfare

Rock, Alternative, Pop | Knoxville, Tennessee
Myspace Header, 2009

When Jordan Beach, Thomas Boyd and Colin Cunningham met in 2004 the three instantly recognized they wanted to make music together. It wasn’t long before the band Thoroughfare, a dynamic force in the world of Modern rock was formed. The band wasted no time releasing their debut EP record “Portrait of a Daydream,” which was produced by platinum selling producer Travis Wyrick (Pillar, POD) as well as their recent EP “Chemical Road” produced by Grammy™ nominated producer David Ivory (Erykah Badu, the Roots).

The band, consisting of singer/guitarist Jordan Beach, drummer Colin Cunningham, keyboardist Cameron Cunningham and bassist Thomas Boyd have been furiously on their way to making their mark in every city they travel to. Blessed with great songs, sharp chops, passionate vocals and an unbelievable engaging live show, Thoroughfare shows no signs of a slowing pace, and only looks to traverse more untouched musical ground. Opening for nationally renowned acts like Uncle Kracker and Bang Bang Bang, from intimate clubs to sprawling festivals, Thoroughfare is poised to explode nationwide. In that endeavor the band has taken the ultimate step in the furtherance of their career by signing with national artist management firm Allure Media Entertainment Group based in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

Thoroughfare has plans to hit the studio again with Travis Wyrick in late August for their first full length album. Visit Thoroughfare's websites to hear a sampling of their recent recordings and to keep up to date with this emerging force in rock music.

Several members went on to form the band The Few, which you can find HERE.

Forget Me Not

Rock, Pop, Alternative | Denver, Colorado

Forget Me Not is a Colorado band with songwriting sensibilities but a passion to rock. The band has been making a name for themselves around Denver for a couple years, but with the recent addition of two new members; RJ Powers (drums) and Vanessa Spear (keys and vocals), the band found themselves re-shaping older songs and writing with fresh ideas. The band recorded their debut EP, “Calling For Context” under the careful guidance of J.P. Manza (from Take To The Oars) at Colorado Sound Studios in November 2010. Brian Vogt's powerful lead vocals and guitar, backed by Drew Lundquist on bass and Mikael Kilates playing lead guitar show that this band is made up of talented musicians. The result is a well-crafted record that highlights a rare balance between songwriting finesse and heavier rock and roll with hints of pop that will get you moving.

You've probably got one of his songs in your head already... Sam Little, your new guilty pleasure without the guilt. Sam Little is pure honest pop right back where it should be. Packed with hooks, handclaps and harmonies, you'll fall more and more in love with the colourful worlds Sam creates. Reverting music back to when it was simple and fun, and it'll have you singing for days. Only starting in early 2009, it's been an impressive start for Sam, with quite an arsenal of shows and tours under his belt already, collectively reaching around 100 shows each individually laced with energy and ready to pull you in tightly, but you'll just have to go see for yourself. Eat Sleep Attack

Pop, Acoustic, Powerpop | Bexhill, England

Eat Sleep Attack is the acoustic musings of ex-Fleeing From Finales and Clarkson vocalist, Sam Little. In his own words, Little writes ‘those ridiculously cheesy pop songs that you love, the ones you secretly listen to on repeat while you tell everyone else you listen to something cooler’. He’s right about the first part, but after a few listens to this EP, you’ll be telling everyone you know about Eat Sleep Attack. This is a guilty pleasure, without the guilt.

If you were ever a Fleeing From Finales fan, you won’t need to be told just how talented a vocalist Sam is. There’s a somewhat boyband quality to his voice in that it’ll appeal to the little sisters and the middle-aged parents of the nation as much as it will to the teens and the twenty-somethings. Coupled with the fact that these four tracks are concisely written, straightforward pop songs, Eat Sleep Attack comes loaded with mass appeal.

Put simply, Eat Sleep Attack is a worthwhile listen for anyone who appreciates a good pop song. Fallin’ could be a huge radio hit if heard by the right people, it’s what I’d imagine a song co-written by Craig David and Jason Mraz would sound like (and we all know ‘7 Days’ by the former was a belter). The remaining three tracks are just Sam and guitar, but at it’s most stripped down, Little’s songwriting ability shines through in its purest form. As for them being ‘cheesy’? Well whether you think that or not, you’ll be singing his choruses for days on end, regardless.

After Eat Sleep Attack Sam Little continued to release music under his own name, you can find it HERE.

Romance on a Rocketship

Pop, Electronic, Acoustic | Lebanon, Missouri
Band Photo by Celina Kenyon, 2009

Romance on a Rocketship conjures up a love that soars into outer space, trailing sweet, lilting pop melodies that aim straight for the heart. R.O.A.R. is Kasey Smith, who hails from the small town of Lebanon, MO, population 15,000, an old-fashioned success story with its roots in today’s Internet driven social network culture. Discovered on MySpace by noted producer J. R. Rotem, the man behind such number 1 smashes as Rihanna’s “S.O.S.,” Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” Jason Derulo’s “Whatcha Say” and Iyaz’s “Replay,” Smith’s Beluga Heights/Island debut is chock full of lilting melodies and pop hooks that hit the sweet spot every time.

The album’s first single, “Skin & Bones” is a self-deprecating love song about an underdog winning over the heart of the most beautiful girl in school. “Underneath everything, we’re all the same, with similar needs and desires,” says Kasey. “It’s all about putting your feelings out there.” With its distinctive treated vocals, “Skin & Bones” has already received more than 1 million plays on MySpace, a fact Smith finds “definitely a trip.” “A Million Kisses” could be a wedding anthem, with its earnest proposal: “If you say I do/I’ll marry you/And lay a million kisses on you …” Other songs on the album, culled from more than 30 demos, include “Miss Magazine,” about a “beauty queen…the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” and “Be My Baby Again.” “I try to write songs that everyone can relate to,” he explains. “We’ve all experienced love and heartbreak. I just try to make it as catchy as possible. That’s my goal for each song.” It’s an approach he developed as a teenager after being turned on to the music of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s by his mom and older brother, with those eclectic influences eventually turning up in his own songs. “I take stuff from everywhere,” he says of his approach, which combines his love of ‘60s and “70s pop, ‘80s new wave and ‘90s grunge and techno. “I love all kinds of music.”

His first musical endeavors were a pair of Christian metal bands, including Here I Come Falling and Agraceful, which both had national followings. During the latter of the two bands, he decided to do his own, very different, style of music to satisfy a wish of his grandmother. “I’ve always wanted to pursue pop music,” he says. “For awhile, fear held me back. I was afraid to put myself out there without the support of a band. It was a dream of mine for years and years.” Feverishly recording and putting the results on his MySpace page, Kasey’s music attracted the interest of Rotem’s brother Tommy, when he noticed the tunesmith’s songs were at the top of the website’s U.K. chart. Kasey and J.R. went into Chalice Studios in L.A. and began working together, improving the songs Smith had already written. “We take one of my demos and then he’ll dissect it by creating a blueprint for something that’s even stronger,” says Smith, explaining the process. “It’s a very collaborative thing, a big mash-up of both our ideas, and this is what comes out at the other end. I love the recording process. That’s my favorite part of music.”

Emerging full-blown, Kasey creates an instantly recognizable style with his massive head of curls, sunglasses and torn T-shirts. “I’ve always been into fashion,” he says. “I’m fascinated with style as much as music. Appearance is a big thing for me. It’s an art form.” With the word “Grace” tattooed on his chest, Kasey’s credo is “It is good to be alive.” “Grace means a lot to me,” he explains. “It goes along with my faith and beliefs as well as my everyday life. In theology, it means the freely given love of God. It reminds me to forgive others, to be gracious to the people around me and not take things too personally.” That comes across in his desire to be a role model to his younger fans. “I try to keep everything as pure and positive as possible,” says Kasey.

That expression of a higher form of love is behind the choice of Romance on a Rocketship as a name. “I don’t date a lot,” he admits. “I’ve always been into the fairy tale idea of love. I want a love that’s out of this world…or nothing. And when I realized the acronym was ‘R.O.A.R.,’ it was set in stone.” With elements of admitted musical favorites ranging from Tupac Shakur and The-Dream to Nirvana and Coldplay (he has a cover of “The Scientist” on YouTube), Kasey Smith is ready to launch Romance on a Rocketship on tour. “I’m completely different on- and off-stage,” he admits. “The stage is a place where you can become whoever you want.” It appears, after being in two bands, the third time’s the charm for the young singer-songwriter as he sets out on his solo career.

At this point, the sky is the limit for Romance on a Rocketship.

Behind the Blindfold

Rock, Pop, Post-Hardcore | St. Louis, Missouri
Band Photo by Jade Renee, 2007

There is a time to love, a time to hate, a time to weep, a time to mourn, and a time to ROCK!!!!! Behind the Blindfold is five members who live by this creed. In a time where music falls under speculation without hesitation Patrick Blair, Matt Elliott, Jim Kopplin, Matt Brennecke, and Derek Maybie have found this to be there dying goal despite the desperate times they have to face.

Patrick Blair (Vocals), Matt Brennecke (Guitar), Matt Elliott (Guitar), Jim Kopplin (Drums), Derek Maybie (Bass)

An infusion of Rock and Pop has brought them together to make music that they love and a common bond to step on stage and put forth the effort to leave with plenty of smiles and five soar necks. Sharing a stage with National acts such as Lorene Drive, So they Say, and Bullets and Octane has not stopped them from seeking bigger stages and more fans to play for. Even a sold out show with hometown heroes Story of the Year, and Warped Tour under their belts they are not planning on stopping anytime soon. With a date to play local radio station 105.7 the points annual festival Pointfest with such heavy hitters as Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace they are convinced that the time is now to take their rock to the mainstream and convince all the speculators that they will stop at nothing to take their music to mass levels across the globe.
