Kids of Survival

Indie, Powerpop, Pop Punk | New York, New York

The last year has been an exciting one for the Kids of Survival: FOX News used their song, “My Addiction” to promote their Good Morning L.A. show; they played the New York Bamboozle Festival in May 2009; they passed 5 million plays on their Myspace site, and in June, their long-awaited sophomore record, Deliver the Message, was triumphantly released. Produced entirely in-house by Gary Gordon and former band member, Vin Envy, Kids of Survival introduced Deliver the Message to a packed house at NYC’s Highline Ballroom on June 28, 2009. Of the new record lead singer/bassist Gary Gordon says, “I was 17 when I wrote the songs on our first record. This new record isn’t the same pop/rock. We still know how to write a catchy chorus and we love that, but these new songs also show that we’re musicians and that we love being musicians.”

Hailing from New York City, Kids of Survival started playing music practically from the cradle. Drummer Dylan Lipari and bassist/lead singer Gary Gordon met in junior high school and have been in and out of bands together since. Guitarist Frank Incandela joined the band, jumping at the opportunity to work with musicians who were serious about touring and making music their career. After a few false starts—name changes, personnel changes—Kids of Survival was born.

In the summer of 2005 after working odd jobs and scrimping and saving their own money, Kids of Survival (known as Stiffler at that time), headed in to the studio with producer Tomas Costanza to record their debut full length record, Good ‘Til Your Heart Pops. At a time when most bands were relying on the formula of, “if you scream it, they will come,” Kids of Survival emerged from the studio with an unapologetically catchy POP-ROCK record. Released on November 29th, 2005 at a sold-out show at the Knitting Factory in New York City, Kids of Survival sold over 4,000 copies independently over the next 7 months. Since its release in 2005, the band have booked 4 full U.S. tours on their own and have built a loyal fanbase in rural small towns and large cities alike. After opting out of an early record deal with a small label, the band chose to remain independent for now.

The Varsity

Emo, Indie, Pop Punk | Wilmington, North Carolina

Emerging from the coastal city of Wilmington, NC, The Varsity is redefining the genres of punk, emo, and pop. Fronted on vocals by Ben Fleetwood, the backbone of the band was formed when Nick Martin (drums), and Scott Baker (guitar) started performing together out of Charleston, SC in early 2003. By mid 2004, The Varsity had relocated to Wilmington, NC and completed its line-up with the addition of Andy Mosley on guitar, and Matt Hendricks on bass. Despite other opportunities (Ben is a pro golfer, and Andy has a degree in philosophy), the members of The Varsity decided long ago that music was their one true love. As a result, the band's self-titled EP was released in August of 2004. The work showcases the band's past year and a half in five songs about friendship, growing older, and of course - heartbreak. The EP's emotional intensity translates to the stage which the band has shared with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, MAE, The Snake The Cross The Crown, Atreyu, Glasseater, Anberlin, and Funeral for a Friend. While searching for the magic ingredient to straighten Scott and Nick's hair, and indulging in Matt's love of frisbee golf, they've played countless shows up and down the east coast winning fans with a barrage of unforgettable choruses, killer smiles, and a sharp wit that keeps the audience coming back. The autumn of 2004 brought a new opportunity for The Varsity in the form of a spot on Taking Back Sunday's national tour. With influences ranging from Lifetime and Glassjaw, to The Smashing Pumpkins and Hum, to Maroon 5, The Varsity is constantly pushing the boundaries of emo while giving pop-punk a new edge that had long been dulled.

Ben Fleetwood went on to start the band Life of the Party, they can be found HERE.

Wayward

Pop Punk, Pop Rock | Reno, Nevada
Myspace Header, 2010

Hailing from Reno, Nevada unsigned pop-rockers Wayward is comprised of Chris Stanton (vocals/guitar), Allen Lewis (guitar), Brad Crane (bass), and Paul Curatolo (drums/vocals). They have been breaking into the industry since their first EP in 2008, including being featured on Smartpunk’s Top 10 Unsigned Acts, being crowned Hometown Heroes in the September 2009 issue of Alternative Press Magazine, and recently being featured on Purevolume's homepage for a week. The members believe in building personal relationships with their fans and pride themselves on being reachable and relatable; in doing so there newly released EP, “With Love”, was funded 100% by their fans from around the country. With the fans help they were able to do a full 4-song EP release with Kyle Black in West Hollywood, CA, at the same studio that All Time Low tracked their latest album. They were also able to get the songs professionally mastered by Alan Douches of West West Side Music in NYC (Bayside, Pete Townshend, Fleetwood Mac, etc). Wayward has been trying to get ahold of Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy, Black Cards, Owner of Decaydance Records) to show him the publicly address letter they wrote for him and shorty after this interview Wentz tweeted Wayward back saying “haha you guys are funny and have dedicated fans- gonna scope when I get home.” Can’t wait to see what happens.

Gateway Getaway

Pop Punk, Alternative | St. Louis, Missouri

The band originated in 2010 under the name, The Pacific. Despite having suffered through a year long hiatus in 2012, we cut our losses and made a huge comeback in 2013/2014. We were truly able to hone in our sound through working with gold status producer, Kevin Gates, of Engaged Audio. Spending half our summer with Gates allowed us to release our debut 5-track EP entitled, "No Borders, No Boundaries".

Following the EP, is a brand new cover of "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, also recorded at Engaged Audio. Gateway Getaway has played a plethora of shows in the St. Louis metro area. Some of the artists we've shared the stage with include: Cartel, Hawthorne Heights, Life On Repeat, Air Dubai, and multiple rock artists at 105.7 The Point's annual "Pointfest" at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

The band is set to play more shows around the Missouri area, including St. Louis venues and college campuses, with the goal of playing Warped Tour 2014 at the Maryland Heights venue in the Summer of 2014! Plans for the future also include shooting a music video for one or more songs off their EP and landing a spot on tour with the Fueled By Ramen community this year!
