Sunset Shootout

Adam John and Sam Sumser, Fairfax natives and two founding members of Sunset Shootout, have known each other since high school and have always written songs together. They decided to start a band once in college and began searching for people who met their requirements. They eventually found three other players to complete the band. Ben Hughes (guitarist), Joseph Emswiler (bassist), and Drew Dirr (drums).

This Fairfax Virginia group is definitely up and coming in the local scene. After winning the Concert 1 Battle of the Bands in which they competed against 100+ other bands and were labeled to be the "Next Big Thing" their fan base is increasing and their energetic and lively performances have helped them build a strong following.

John and Sumser attribute much of their success to the popularity of their Myspace page and the uniqueness of their sound. “It kind of happened on accident, and we got really popular feedback about how different it is and how unique, so we really just took it and ran with it,” Sumser said. Sunset Shootout’s influences are Justin Timberlake and Akon, among others. The

band’s music is a mixture of rhythm and blues, pop and hip-hop. “It really comes down to different kinds of music everyone in the band listens to,” John said. “We try to make a sound that no one else has yet.”

The band was preparing to release their album, titled "The Spark", when they called it quits.
