Sounding the Silence

Rock, Indie, Pop | Joplin, Missouri
2008 Band Lineup: Kevin Deems (Drums/Piano), Carter Hulsey (Guitar/Vocals), Taylor MacFee (Bass/Percussion/Vocals)

We are honest guys, who are in love with music. It is our passion. We write music about God, life, friends, girls, struggles we are going through, whatever is relevant to us at the time. We want to move people, to see a change in this generation. It is not about music, it is about love and community. We don't care if you like our music (everyone likes different kinds of music, and that is a beautiful thing), we want you to see through us, see our hearts and motives, why we play music...why we love.

2007 Band Lineup: Kevin Deems (Drums), Scott Fahrig (Bass), Carter Hulsey (Vocals/Guitar), and Cody Belk (Guitar)

Members: Kevin Deems (Drums/Piano), Carter Hulsey (Guitar/Vocals), Taylor MacFee (Bass/Percussion/Vocals)

Former Members: Scott Fahrig (Bass), Cody Belk (Guitar)

Sounding the Silence was originally called Mandown but decided to change their name to avoid confusion since that band name was already in use.

Carter Hulsey has continued to make music under his own name since Sounding the Silence disbanded.

Me vs Gravity

Pop Rock, Alternative | Boston, Massachusetts

Me vs Gravity, a brand new rock/pop band based out of Boston, is comprised of four first-year students from Berklee College of Music. In 2008, singer Zach Nelson began writing songs in his hometown of Tipp City, Ohio under the moniker Me vs Gravity. Two years later, he met drummer and video guru Ben Meyers on a subway train during the first week of classes, and the two began writing and collaborating. They then recruited guitarist and solo artist Dave Colicchio. Dave then met Jeff Kinsey in a Berklee practice room, and knew he had found the fourth member. From that point on, everything clicked. The four have since been working hard writing, planning shows, and recording their first EP. Their explosive debut single, Walls, is out, accompanied by a music video on YouTube.

Alaska and Me

Indie, Rock, Alternative | Show Low, Arizona
Band Photo by Tim Kirch, 2008

Alaska and Me consists of 4 rugged young men hailing from the white mountains of Arizona. These gun-slingers of song create emotionally charged music as strong as a western bar brawl and as smooth as a horses hide.

The band has seen much growth since the first acoustic recordings, which consisted of Tyler, Ben and Garage Band. After recruiting Charles and Ian shortly after, the music gained a much larger and filled out sound which quickly made them a fixture in the Arizona indie music scene. Soon, they gathered six songs and traveled to the far reaches of the earth (New York) to record their first EP, titled "Actors". With a steady stream of shows they gained many fans, their buoyant rock not limiting their appeal to only the home state.

Their new album "I Will Die in the West", was recorded at the Phoenix studio of producer Bob Hoag (The Format, Dear And The Headlights), and we can hear their progression as artists as loud and clear as a rifle shot into the crisp mountain air. Singing stories about the gold rush, blazing wagon trains, and velvet clad saloon girls, it sounds as if the characters from many a John Wayne movie decided to start an indie rock band.

Ian Dupeire (Drums), Tyler Cox (Vocals/Guitar), Charles Ellsworth (Bass), Ben Turner (Guitar)

Just for Today

Pop Rock, Pop Punk | Minneapolis, Minnesota

Originating from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, it started with a fun little acoustic project with Dalton Anondson and Max Young, who then proceeded to ask Joey Russ to be drummer for them and Zach Hesemann started as bass. They played a couple of shows and recorded some acoustic demos but then decided they were going to take a break from music. In late 2010, Just for Today added bass player Will Johnson to the roster, and started making music again. After spending a few months writing, they just released their debut EP titled, "Celebrate!"

Iseah

Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, Hardcore | Springfield, Missouri
Myspace Header, 2009

Iseah distinguishes itself by being a band that plays with genuine ability–and genuine aggression. Without intending to resort to rock cliche, every instrument sounds weapon-like.

Matthew Slone (Vocals), Austin (Guitar/Vocals), Jonathan (Guitar), Nicholas (Bass), Andrew Baker (Drums)

Singer Matt Slone sings well, but he screams with almost jolting ferocity. “Sweet Talkers”–what an ironic name–will leave you convinced he hates you, and the scream of “this could be our last day” near the end of “Making Widows Out of Wives” carries as much conviction as it does menace. The band matches him stride for stride in intensity, but does so smartly. This isn’t faster-louder-harder-heavier; the band has a good ear for pace and orchestrates its songs for dramatic effect. Witness Andrew Baker‘s drumming midway through “Seasick Down South,” where he punctuates tense pauses with blasts on the kit.

Lyrically, the songs seem to aim for the epic, something Black Lungs & Bitter Tongues would seem to back up with its antique-painting-meets-Medusa (wait till you flip it open) cover art. “Making Widows Out of Wives,” “A Burial Fit for a Sailor” and “Caught in the Current” sound at times like a three-song story arc of men doomed in battle and praying (literally) for a swift end, even if that end is death. Combined with the music, it’s a heady listen, the sort of music that sounds borne from playing in a room lit only by a lone swinging lightbulb. It’s among the best hard rock to come from Springfield in some time, and it just might keep you up at night a little later than you had planned if you listen to it in the dark.

Larzz

Powerpop, Pop Rock, Electronic | New York, New York
Band Photo by Sara Kiesling, 2009

At 18, Larzz Principato isn’t afraid to shake things up. He’s a singer/songwriter/guitarist and founder of the Pop/Rock solo project Show Me the Skyline that first appeared on the scene in the spring of 2009. Larzz toured throughout the east coast and performed in numerous music festivals including shows for the 2010 Warped Tour. He quickly developed a dedicated fan base and his music is instantly recognized by thousands of fans. Larzz is now taking his career to the next level and will be setting aside the SMTS name to be a self-titled artist.

Larzz’s new EP entitled “Shut Up and Dance” distinctly reflects his growth as a musician and songwriter. He states, “The songs in my new EP aim to be a potent mix of musical styles that combine Pop/Dance influences with Alternative roots and bit of video game-esque synths. To capture the feel of what I was looking for I collaborated with successful songwriter and producer Blake Healy, formerly of the band Metro Station”. And the overall sound is? Boy’s Like Girls meets Metro Station with a dash of Ke$ha chucked into the mix.

Larzz spends a lot of time getting to know his fans, both online and in the real world. “I play music so I can connect with people and all of the social media sites out there make it super easy. Then, when I play live I get to meet the awesome fans that I’ve been talking to online. My fans really inspire me and my goal is to make music that is meaningful to them-that’s our connection.”

The Welcome Home

Alternative, Indie, Pop Rock | Portland, Oregon
Myspace Header, 2009

Striving to create music that's far more about strong songwriting than rock star fame, The Welcome Home combine influences from bands like Jimmy Eat World with their love for Jazz and Motown Acts such as Stevie Wonder & The Jackson 5, crafting a sound that is distinctly their own.

Comprised of Gabe Mouer (Vocals, guitar, keys), Jason Castro (bass, vocals), Kerry Layne Jeffrey (Guitar, Tambo), and Dallas Baker (Drums, sex appeal), The Welcome Home aim to prove their diligence by continuing to extensively tour the entire west coast from WA to TX, sharing the stage with national acts such as Train, The Ataris, and Deer and the Headlights, continuing to carve a niche in the Portland music scene.

As they begin writing songs for their next release, they keep in mind the reasons why they started in the first place; to make music that is not only different but ultimately, honest.

JJ (Piano), Gabe Mouer (Vocals/Guitar), Dallas Baker (Drums), Jason Castro (Bass/Vocals)
